Sustainable work – Moumita’s story

Moumita joined Work Routes after a five-year career gap whilst raising her family. Her motivation to find work was to earn, provide for her family and have independence.

During her initial appointment, Moumita met with her allocated Employment Adviser, Kerdal, who got to know her and her career goals. As a parent of four, Moumita wanted to find a job that suited her family routine and that worked around school hours.

Work Routes provide a Better Off Calculation tool that allows participants to see the potential earnings they could make from working full and part-time hours. Our team of experienced Employment Advisers are on hand to walk through government funding for childcare and eligibility criteria.

Moumita was interested in finding a job in administration, or with a school due to the working hours, and so Kerdal created an action plan for her and Moumita to work towards that would cover the next steps.

Kerdal enrolled Moumita onto several in-house courses with Work Routes that focused on CV writing, tailoring CVs and interview skills and techniques. From this, Moumita felt confident in beginning the job application process, and proceeded to apply for jobs in local schools, reception roles, and retail assistant positions.

Our in-house courses provide sessions that focus on employability skills in either a group setting or one-to-one basis. This enables participants to upskill in the areas that are a barrier to employment for them.

“Moumita worked with myself and our Recruitment Managers through job search sessions, and I saw her grow with confidence each time because of the support she received. It wasn’t long before she was offered a Teaching Assistant role at a local school, and we were able to support her with the relevant paperwork she needed to start the job.” Said Kerdal.

The support from Work Routes doesn’t end once our participants start working, and alongside travel costs, and work clothes, our team can cover the renewal costs of right to work documents, to ensure this doesn’t act as a barrier or delay their job start.
